Yin Yoga & Anatomy 1 Teacher Training

Recently I attended a 6 Day Yin Yoga & Anatomy 1 Teacher Training at the Gold Coast. This course was conducted by Markus Giess who is an exponent of Paul Grilley’s Yin Yoga approach and is internationally recognised by American Yoga Alliance. I wanted to understand more about Anatomy and the Yin Yoga approach and learnt that Yin and Yang are convenient terms for describing the different forms of yoga practice.

Yin Yoga originates from the Tao Yin (or Taoist Yoga) and targets the fascia and ligaments etc, rather than the muscle and blood which are more Yang tissues. It is a slow and static form of Yoga practice and emphasises holding postures for a longer time during which the muscles are “relaxed”. Much emphasis is given to the individual bone structure of each person. The aim is to “stimulate” the fascia tissue and to exercise the joints to an individual’s full range of motion.

It was a really enjoyable and instructive learning experience. I will easily be able to integrate what I learnt during this course into my own teaching and approach to Yoga as it involves mindfulness.
