Welcome to Embodied Yoga's new website

Welcome to Embodied Yoga studio at Toowong. It’s been a while coming, and now I’m delighted to be going public at last. The name really encapsulates what is practised at the Embodied Yoga studio. It’s an approach to one’s Yoga practice which incorporates a mental focus throughout, whether one is practising Asanas, Pranayama (breathing exercises), Meditation or Relaxation. It is an endeavour to be completely absorbed in the present moment throughout the lesson to get the most out of each practice.
At Embodied Yoga I conduct small group classes where students can receive appropriate guidance with postures and techniques to ensure they get the most benefit from each session. For those who don’t like classes I offer an Individual Practice Design personalised for each student over three sessions. Each program is tailored to suit an individual’s needs and is then reviewed and revised so one can continue the practice at home. As a qualified Children’s Yoga Teacher, I also offer classes for children at local primary and secondary schools.
Yoga has been increasing in popularity over recent years as people are looking for ways to improve their physical well-being as well as dealing with the stresses of modern life. It is evident in the number of studios and the variety of different styles of Yoga classes on offer to cater for people’s preferences.
Though Yoga is often thought of as a series of physical postures, there is growing recognition that it involves other practices that help release stress and achieve some relaxation, physically and mentally. Here at Embodied Yoga, the emphasis is on a holistic approach which addresses not only our physical needs, but also the psychological and emotional aspects of our daily lives. The classes are not about encouraging competitive behaviour or seeing who can bend or stretch the furthest; the focus is more about doing one’s practices with a more mindful approach whilst working within one’s capabilities.
This approach is acknowledged as being more conducive to releasing stress and achieving a more relaxed body and a calmer state of mind. The wonderful thing about practising Yoga in an integrated way is that there are many more benefits than the physical “fitness” aspect or relaxation, significant as they are. There are immense physical benefits such as improved posture, strength and flexibility, lower blood pressure, improved circulation and digestion and increased immunity etc. Then there are the numerous benefits for the mind such as improved concentration and memory, increased mental awareness, self-acceptance and confidence, increased energy levels and the ability to focus on the present and so on. So cumulatively, this all leads to better health and happiness which the majority of us aspire towards.
The prospect of getting Embodied Yoga out there is exciting and I am keen to share what knowledge and experience of Yoga I have acquired with those who are looking for something a little more substantial than a supple body or strong core. Internationally renowned yoga teacher, Eric Paskel, puts it very succinctly:-
'Yoga is not about tightening your ass.
It's about getting your head out of it.'
I don’t have the flamboyance of Eric Paskel, but I would hope that the conviction and enthusiasm I feel for Embodied Yoga is reflected in my classes. Classes are by appointment only.
