The Embodied Yoga Story

I have practised yoga in one form or other since my early adult life having been drawn to it for spiritual reasons, searching for a deeper meaning to life. Whilst not being religiously inclined, I was definitely in search of a philosophy or way of life that incorporated more meaning to every day existence.  I also saw the value of looking after my physical and mental health as well as improving my emotional balance and peace of mind.

My initial introduction to Yoga was at a Yoga centre in Brisbane, which was affiliated with The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, India. The Yoga Institute was founded by Shri Yogendra in 1918 and is still operated by the Yogendra family to this day. The Institute teaches classical Yoga with an emphasis on service to society, and incorporates the teachings of Patanjali as outlined in the Yoga Sutras and Eightfold Path.

After many years of practising and enjoying the benefits of Yoga I decided to study the subject more extensively and undertake teacher training. That way I could share my convictions and the realisation that, in essence, Yoga helps us reconnect with our true intrinsic qualities.

Yoga Teacher Training

In 2012 I undertook my Level 1 Yoga Teacher training (350 hours) with Yoga Presence, under the guidance of Kate Pell and Zara Matthews, graduating in February 2013.  The training I received there was Iyengar style and this training set me on the path to teaching Yoga. I started teaching a regular weekly Yoga class during 2013 at a private home studio, and moved to my own home studio in 2014. During 2015, I completed the 150 hour Post-Graduate Teacher Training Course with Michael de Manicor at The Yoga Institute, Cammeray, NSW.
