Holistic Yoga

Most people have no idea about the holistic aspect of Yoga, which not only aims at improving one’s physical health and well-being but also aims at improving mental calmness, emotional stability and concentration.  The various yoga methods were originally conceived as a discipline or practice for living a happy and healthy life.  So whilst there can be great benefit in practising the physical postures, they are not the “be all and end all” of Yoga and need to be taught in conjunction with other techniques as part of a well-rounded practice.

Boutique Yoga Studio

Embodied Yoga is a boutique yoga studio offering small adult classes of six to eight students incorporating this integrated approach. Typically a class would involve a range of physical postures – standing, sitting and lying down – some breathing techniques to bring about physical and mental calmness, meditation to quieten the mind and improve concentration, and a guided relaxation practice.

Small classes enable more attention to be given to individual students and allows subtle corrections to be made so that postures and techniques are practised correctly thereby avoiding injury or detrimental habits to form.  General classes are offered and incorporate Beginner and Intermediate levels.

Personal Practice Design

Usually 3 private lessons are undertaken during which a personal practice is designed, revised and refined for the individual over a period of several weeks.  This takes into consideration the personal requirements that a person may have with a view to addressing particular needs, restrictions, injuries, contra-indications etc.  Since people are not all the same, it follows that students may not all benefit from all the same practices.  What may be beneficial to one person may in fact be detrimental or potentially harmful to another.  Yoga was originally taught in this way as opposed to the modern approach of large group classes in which there can be little or no attention to the individual person.

School-based Yoga Classes

In addition, school-based yoga classes are offered to children and teenagers at primary and secondary schools.  Children’s Yoga is a specialised field of Yoga incorporating additional teacher training as it requires an entirely different approach to that taken in adult classes.  Children’s classes involve a more child-friendly dialogue, descriptions and playfulness to engage their attention and incorporate fun into the practices.

With the plethora of Yoga styles and approaches offered today, the aim at Embodied Yoga is to provide a more integrated approach.  By focusing on individual students the aim is to improve their overall sense of well-being as well as achieving a sense of calmness, stability and focus in their daily life.
